Story of the Art: The designer wanted to transform the rebellious spirit of the blue jeans of 1970s as well as the romantic and lost lifestyle of American cowboys into an accessory of today’s forever-free women who can rise up to seek their rights and also be romantic. The Festive Bag, inspired by the leather accessories called “chaps” that American cowboys wore over their jeans, was designed by combining denim and leather with a piece of soul.

Story of the Art: It began when the designer discovered that denim was a living material. The art is the merging of the different textures of denim and an off-key uneven rhythm with the user. The user was imagined to be sitting on a seaside. It was designed just like the pebbles that shape and renew themselves with the movement of the person. The fabric, worn with use, offers an experience that becomes smaller, but no less effectual over time.

Story of the Art: Blue Period is the four- year period during which Pablo Picasso reflected his melancholy on his paintings. Picasso used blue, which had been his favorite colour since his childhood with its sea-like and sky-like serenity, in his blue period to express sadness, death, old age, and poverty in their most true form. In the full-denim design, the inspiration comes from the “The Old Guitarist” painting of Picasso, one of his works of art represents his blue period.

Story of the Art: The designer gets her inspiration from aikido. The meaning behind the word ‘aikido’ led her to pick this subject. Aikido becomes meaningful with the use of the words ‘harmony’, ‘energy’ and ‘way’ (doctrine). The two important elements in the art of the designer are energy and harmony. The life force and energy were transferred into the design by including the small details that could reflect the spirit of aikido in the simplest possible form.

Story of the Art: Kyanite is a natural stone. Blue kyanite has a very positive effect on the body and psychology. Moreover, the texture as well as the varying blue shades of the stone are inspiring and also complementary because of its harmony with the colours of denim. The project ultimately aims to add peace, serenity and value to the space with the effects of the colours.

Story of the Art: The art is inspired by the painful process of transformation and transfiguration. Ancient cultures often used sackcloth and ashes to demonstrate their grief and mourning. The woman depicted in the painting is symbolic of victory over darkness, sadness and defeat. She has exchanged her ashes and sackcloth for beauty and light. She is beautiful, radiant, regal and powerful. She is divinely crowned and transfigured. A radiant light in the cosmos.

Story of the Art: The designer aims to carry the denim in a functional form to the working environment by focusing on the sound-absorbing effect of cotton, which is much greater than any synthetic materials. The denim is imagined to have the texture that maintains the silence and separation with its dynamic appearance, and being the centre stage in life with its light contours. The harmony between the denim and the natural texture of wood has resulted in an enjoyable design.

Story of the Art: The inspiration comes from magic. The designer wanted to bring the spirit of denim to life, to revive the fabric with hundreds of meters of threads, sewing in her time and love. The variety of fabric and its multifariousness inspired her. The art knows how the cotton grows, under the hot sun, like blue rivers flowing indigo as it knows as many stories as the stitches on the hat.

Story of the Art: The inspiration comes from Persian carpets. The patterns of the rug have been applied on the denim with print, flock foils and hand embroidery. Creating a new fabric with the denim and manipulating the different layers of fabric was the most inspirational part.

Story of the Art: “Frozen in time” originated from a desire to recreate a place where the designer experienced joy. The swing, in the playground, was such a place for the designer. Therefore, she created a self-standing and portable swing you could take anywhere. It is decorated with a favorite childhood memory - the double scoop ice-cream cone.

Story of the Art: Uniformity offers three unique surface designs created by joining the denimmanufactured modules. The construction is inspired by the hexagon planes of symmetry in nature. The modules are identical, join together just like a lock and key. By grouping the modules in two separate layers and with the light sources hidden behind from view, the aim is to increase the impression of the volume and depth of the prototypes.

Story of the Art: The art is a transformation mask which is interacting with the observer via its openable front which lets people discover the inner and outer perspective. The act of opening is a symbol for true communication with our inner self and the crafted denim materials symbolize the different faces of real-life experiences. From the colourful painted parts to the bleached and scratched painful moments, the design represents the masks we put upon our soul to hide our vulnerability. By pulling the string, people reveal their inner self and show who they really are.

Sometimes it is impossible to avoid the storms, but it might be easier to face them if people have something to hide in; a cocoon which can protect them from the world outside.

The figures connecting just like Siamese twins are joined together with denim threads on the eyes and lips. “Maybe you would be better if you allowed yourself to be what you are.” quoted by Ingmar Bergman in Persona the movie became another inspiring source for the design.

Denim Light: The design aims to bring together in harmony the moving shape of denim with the form of lighting chiming in sequence, to have local illumination on light surfaces.

Story of the Art: The collection of old newspaper clippings, receipts, tickets and other memories were mixed with denim to create a paper collection symbolising true life experiences. The uniting feature of denim and paper is that
they both age through the course of time and increase in value as they get older. The two materials that are both natural in origin were used sometimes together and sometimes in separate contexts in this collection.
